If you want to take video off dvds and save it to your computer, you can rip them, like a cd, and then you can share the video with other people.
One really good site I have found that rips dvds for free (but you only get 5 free rips, and then you have to buy the program), is www.magicdvdripper.com. You can download the program for free, just follow the directions on the site.
Also, when creating videos to upload and share with other people, generally the most compatible format is 'WMV.'
If you need to convert a video or an audio file to a different format, a great online conversion site that I use all the time is www.media-convert.com - it's free and you don't have to download it. Only downside is, files must be smaller than 150 megabytes.
